ID Verification

ID VerificationTo counteract fraudulent activities and validate the identity of the signer, notaries are obligated to scrutinize the signer’s identification, ensuring that they are genuinely the person they claim to be before proceeding with the notarization of a document.

Acceptable forms of identification:

– State-issued driver’s license
– State-issued identification card
– U.S. military identification card
– Passport
– Government issued photo ID
– Resident alien identification card (green card)

*Please note that this list is not exhaustive. If you are uncertain about your ID, feel free to send a message, and we will inform you if it is acceptable at info@linotaryservices.com.

Notaries retain the right to refuse service to any signer who does not meet ID verification requirements.

ID Verification Process:

Prior to delivery of a notarized document, two forms of ID verification are required:

  1. Manual ID Verification
  2. Automated ID Verification
Manual ID Verification Process:

To confirm a signer’s identity, the notary will request a government-issued photo identification, such as a driver’s license, passport, or state ID card. The notary will then carefully examine the identification to ensure its authenticity and that it matches the signer’s name on the document.

Additionally, the notary may ask the signer a series of questions to affirm their identity, such as their full name, address, date of birth, and other relevant information.

Automated ID Verification Process:

Signers are required, at a minimum, to undergo ID proofing and credential analysis to verify their identity.

Before getting started, please make sure of the following:
* Signer has their physical identification available.
(Pictures, copies, or other unoriginal identification is not accepted.)
* Signer is physically located with the device used for verification.
(Photos, pre-recorded video, or secondary video conferences will not be accepted.)

How to complete automated ID verification:

1. Each signer can initiate the process be selecting their name from the list of signers on the meeting page.
(If the signer’s name is not listed, it can be added.)
