What This Service Is For

Document legalization is for documents being used in countries that are not part of the Hague Apostille Convention or that require embassy or consulate attestation instead of apostille.

  • Documents for non-Hague countries
  • Embassy or consulate attestation requests
  • Business and commercial documents
  • School, employment, and licensing records
  • Family, marriage, and personal documents
  • Documents requiring state and federal authentication

Before You Book

Legalization requirements vary by country, embassy, document type, and receiving agency. Some documents may need notarization, certified translation, state authentication, U.S. Department of State authentication, and final embassy attestation.

Provide the destination country and any foreign agency instructions when booking.

What You Need

  • Destination country
  • Document type
  • Original or certified document, if required
  • Any embassy or agency instructions
  • Return delivery details

Legalization Review

We review the document and destination country to determine whether it needs apostille, embassy legalization, notarization, translation, state authentication, or federal authentication.

Non-Hague Countries

Legalization is commonly used for countries that do not follow the apostille process or that require additional embassy or consular review.

Personal Documents

Use legalization for eligible personal and family documents being sent to a non-Hague country, embassy, consulate, foreign court, or overseas agency.

  • Birth certificates
  • Marriage certificates
  • Divorce decrees
  • Powers of attorney

Business Documents

Legalization can support companies handling foreign registrations, commercial transactions, agency agreements, export paperwork, and overseas business requirements.

  • Commercial invoices
  • Articles of incorporation
  • Certificates of good standing
  • Business contracts

School & Government Documents

Educational, government, and legal documents may need extra certification before embassy attestation, depending on the country and receiving institution.

  • Diplomas and transcripts
  • Professional licenses
  • FBI background checks
  • Court documents

How It Works

  • Submit the booking form below
  • Provide the destination country and document type
  • Upload or provide document details for review
  • Complete notarization or certification if needed
  • Your document is routed through the required authentication steps
  • The legalized document is returned using the selected delivery method

Possible Authentication Steps

Legalization may require several steps before the document is accepted overseas. The exact route depends on the document and destination country.

  • Document preparation
  • Notarization, if required
  • State authentication
  • U.S. Department of State authentication
  • Embassy or consulate attestation

Processing & Pricing

Legalization service starts at $650. Embassy timelines and government fees vary by country, document type, translation needs, and whether expedited embassy handling is available.

Need Apostille Instead?

If the destination country accepts apostilles, you may not need embassy legalization. Use Apostille Services for Hague countries and Legalization for non-Hague or embassy-attestation requirements.

Before You Send Your Document

Embassy legalization is more sensitive than standard apostille processing. Rejections usually happen when a document is missing a required certification, translation, seal, signature, or embassy-specific supporting document.

  • Confirm the destination country before booking
  • Include all embassy or agency instructions
  • Do not alter certified copies
  • Confirm whether translation is required
  • Confirm whether the document needs state or federal authentication

Common Legalization Countries

Legalization may be needed for countries such as Qatar, Kuwait, Vietnam, Taiwan, Egypt, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Jordan, Lebanon, Algeria, and other countries with embassy or consular attestation requirements.
